In November of '04 I embarked upon a quest to shed 60 extra pounds I'd been carrying most of my adult life. I did just that and met my goal in 2005 (check out my blog, Missy Knows It All at http://mkia.diaryland.com) but a lot has happened since then.
In October of 2005 I threw my back out and it took 3 months before I regained my mobility. It was more painful that going through labor and I should know, I birthed twins who topped out at over 15 pounds (thankfully not all in one fell swoop, but damned near close enough). My physical therapist explained what happened, which was my right sciatic nerve (which is the biggest nerve in the human body and has a diameter equivalent to a half dollar) had become "dislodged" which she felt had to do with my weight loss. It was because my "core" (abdominal muscles and lower back) wasn't strong and the pelvic floor was "wobbly." Part of this she attributed to exercising according to my former weight and not revising my routine to accomodate the changes in my figure. And let's face it, when you've been hauling around that extra weight, changes are good that you've been "exercising" the core but without it, well, you have to do it "manually."
Throughout this, all hell broke loose as we had to pull one of our twin boys out of school and enroll him in the dreaded public school system while embarking upon a long and arduous battle with the former school's principal and then the board, which we're still involved in. It doesn't help that the other twin is still at that school, but it's not a good idea to move him for a number of other reasons.
If that wasn't enough, five days before Christmas, just as this situation with our son was coming to a head and I'd just started to get my mobility back, my father (AKA the abuser) died rather suddenly.
I'm amazed my weight didn't shoot back up even higher, but the point is, it did go back up and I'm not going to take this "lying down." So here I am, back again and ready to kick some ass! Wish me luck!
